UPA govt's attitude was sit & watch for Orders from 10 Janpath, so all of us know how they performed..A person who assists in the murder of people whom he has taken an oath to protect, cannot be really thinking about the country or for its development. I understand that per country cap is painful for certain countries. But i think they want the employment based immigrant community to be as versatile as possible. I have never heard someone complaining about the DV program where certain countries are not allowed to participate. The reason behind is that they want people from all over the world not just from certain parts of the world.
What part of "Diversity Visa" don't you understand ? The objective there was and is "DIVERSITY" and therefore it make sense (albeit a limited one).
Why should there be a restriction based on COB for employment based visas ? Do you think the Govt can dictate companies to recruit only so many people from different demographies ? I guess not.
Thank God there is no such restriction on H1.
I know it sucks for guys from ROW to be treated on par with ICMP quartet. But is only fair to be treated equally at least in EB categories.
As many have suggested before, this removal of quota in it self will not solve the immigration problem. But is is fair and equitable in my opinion. And the opinion generally is different based on what side of the fence you are on. Recapture and increase of the annual limit to a more reasonable number is the correct solution.
Although it may be kind of wishful thinking from the ICMP quartet to get this per country limitation removed, I personally feel the odds of that happening or very low. So guys from ROW, please chill. You are probably alright. Removing the world hunger is the right thing , but that is not going to happen. Some people continue to eat mud cakes to kill the hunger (This is a true story. I read an article recently).
Most problems in the past have been resolved by not improving/patching the current system/source but by paradigm and systematic shifts. The root of the problem at the conceptual level is the demand for these visas from these countries. If the India and China continue their current growth rate for the next decade, they probably don't need this many visas :) who knows :).
But for now this is a problem for all of us who are struck in this nightmare.

Lawsuit might be worth looking into...If you see majority of any type of immigration fixes, a lawsuit or a threat of a lawsuit has been one of the major reasons for USCIS to give some ground....

Guys,
I have been working here for 9 years and next year we plan to return back to India. I spoke to SSN customer service to find out my retirement and survivor benefits. Being an Indian citizen, all these are available only if me, or my dependants, have a valid residing status with the US, at the time of making the application. The contribution at this point is like getting a right to work. This is outrageous.
We all have been legally invited into this country for a work, and that means the US gov should protect our legal and fair interests. It is universally true that everyone works to protect his family. Now here is a case, where I have no right to my retirement money just because I dont have a legal resident status. Whose fault is this. I already made the application 6 years ago. If my home country does not have the comparable SSN structure, then return the money back? We will pay the taxes and take the money back. Our kids need it.
I dont know what is the appropriate channel to get this fixed. This appears more like human rights violation, or abuse. I am sure there are many in this forum who are in the same boat as I am. Can someone team up with me to do more research or share your discoveries.
To the US, this is what I got to say:

If you want to protect the jobs for your people, please do it. You have every right. But please dont dump the people you officially invited to augument the workforce of your country into the waters. Before you bring in additional workers to support your companies, do necessary corrections in your immigration policies to let them in only with green card. Dont strangulate their careers. Your existing policies have been burning the aspirations and careers of a lot of innocent people from India and China.
To those innocent legal foreign workers that have already gathered 40 points in SS, you owe them. They deserve citizenship, not green card. I know it is jumping across multitude of issues, but is it not fair.

I always has that question what is the real difference, hear people sayinig more taxes less salary and all that but don't know the actual difference yet.

Every time I hear "Canadian taxes are so much higher", I respond back with "really ? how much are you paying a month for health insurance?". I suggest a typical breadwinner with spouse + 2 dependents is probably paying $500 / mo + in health insurance premiums. Add that $6K / yr to your US tax bill, then compare it to your Canadian tax bill. ;)

Corruption, particularly in India, is like a software, which only gets better with every release. YSR took the corruption to a level unknown till now, I bet he'd put lalloo to shame. What development are you talking about. Don't you hear increase in inflation, or farmers suicide or land grabbing. If you haven't visited Hyderabad recently, you better do it soon, else by the time you visit next time you won't see hussain saagar, but a few multiplxes or luxury homes instead.
