I have a close friend who has floated a company to pursue an entrepreneurial dream.
My husband is currently working in US and has filed for GC (140 approved status). I have an EAD and am working in a company very close to where I am staying.
My friend has requested me to help market clients for the product that they are developing.. Is it ok for me to approach companies, as a representative of my friend's company and try selling the product(strictly non-compensational)? Or will there be legal hassles in doing this? Please enlighten me with your thoughts..

Since you are on EAD, and I presume you are the dependent applicant, there is no limit on the number of jobs that you can have....Definitely there is no legal hassle...and I wonder why you want to just volunteer? If its fear of legal implication then, change your mind and get paid !!! :)

Hello IV Freinds,
I checked my mail last Saturday, got Cards and welcome approval notices in mail. Status at USCIS website still shows all cases pending. I had called my Senators office for follow up week before as processing dates also had also passed.
I appreciate IV for providing this website for sharing our immigration issues and concerns in this long journey.
Good luck to all IV members who are still awaiting for good day to come.

You should not have to pack up your belongings just yet. Chapter 10.5(b)(3) of the USCIS Adjudicator's Field Manual states:"Responses are timely filed if they are received by mail no more than three days after the due date, as provided for at 8 CFR 103.5(b) ." As long as USCIS receives your RFE response today or tomorrow, there ought not to be any problem. Also, because the "deadline" of July 10th fell on a Saturday there is a required automatic extension to Monday.
For future reference, here are a few things to keep in mind regarding USCIS filing deadlines:
1. "Filed" = actually received by USCIS. post marks or airbills showing date sent do not matter
2. USCIS generally will not accept mail or courier deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Federal holidays.
3. Saturdays, Sundays and Federal holidays must be included when calculating time periods.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies...that is a touch reassuring
I spoke to my lawyer. She said she was re-sending the app in today with a cover letter explaining the wrongful rejections. She said that if they still reject it, she will go through the liaison and try to get them to accept it. Is this standard procedure?
Secondly, on a different note, I am not sure who did it or why, someone gave me a red dot.

Gurus, help needed urgently - I had mailed my I-765 on Saturday via express delivery to the Texas Service Center as I live in NJ. The address I sent it to was

I checked my USPS tracking status, and it says the following
We attempted to deliver your item at 10:33 AM on June 23, 2008 in MESQUITE, TX 75185 and a notice was left. A second delivery attempt will be made. If unsuccessful, we will hold it for five business days and then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.
Has this happened with anyone else? I cross checked the address and its correct. So what should be done in this case?

If for any reason you get the parcel back, I would advise you to Fedex it

I don't want to discourage you, but IV has looked into all these options earlier and has realized that it would be fruitless to try and ask our lazy politicians to take up our case with the US govt. More over this is an internal matter of US govt and Indian government cannot influence their policies and laws. Why would you expect Indian govt. to fight for you, when you left the Indian shores and want to settle down in US for your comfort?
Having said that, if you do have contacts and would like to take the lead in reaching out to the Indian govt, IV will support you. So please do the honors.

Dont mind you sound to me like do it alone dude. Most of us have waited years of agony and waiting. Indian govt like any other govt will do it for there interests. Dobbs owns a 300-acre estate in Sussex, N.J., and a winter home in West Palm Beach, Fla. His daughter keeps five show horses worth about $1 million each at several stables; the horses are owned by the Dobbs Group, of which Lou Dobbs is president.
Macdonald spoke with several immigrants who were employed to work on winter property and helped with the upkeep of Dobbs' horses at stables in Vermont and Florida. "I looked after Dobbs' horses while I was illegal," said one man. Another worker said that he believed Hillary Dobbs knew they didn't have papers. (The workers did not give their real names for fear of deportation.)
Macdonald wrote that another worker worked on the garden at Dobbs' Florida property. On one occasion, that worker said, Lou Dobbs � who referred to himself as "Luis" � instructed him in Spanish to talk to his boss about moving a specific plant. Thanks for participating . Please provide your feedback on the meeting i.e What you liked and what you didn't like. This will help us for the future meetings.
Also please become more active and urge you friends and colleagues to become more active in NJ state chapter.
Any suggestion on promoting our cause will be greatly appreciated:
Some of the areas to think about are:
a) How often we should hold such conferences?
b) What other topics we should include. ( For example Financial planning for the community, given the uncertainity in the process)?
c) In what way we together can help increase our number?
d) etc...etc...
The meeting was very well organized. Q&A session with Attorney Prashanti Reddy was very useful. Here are my suggestions:
a) We can have these conferences every two months or whenever core thinks so.
b) I think we should stick to immigration.
c) Earlier 'Invite a friend/Add a member' campaigns were very successful as compared to flyer/poster campaign.

How about pledging anywhere between 1 to 5 % of our tax returns? If enough people do it, that should do the trick.. But we need to widen the base, I think.. I don't think the problem is of people not contributing enough, the real problem is that we do not have enough people contributing.
But an interesting idea nevertheless.. though 2K is beyond my means at the moment. :o

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Document mailed to applicant.
On December 19, 2007 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service.
What does it mean? Does it mean that I-485 is approved.
Pls guide.
